Whoo updates

2 min read
We're quite lucky we have someone willing to run the Facebook for us. As you can see when the team has to run the DA on their own...we're not very good at keeping it updated. Most of our time is after all eaten up by making items and events! We have however pledged to ourselves (and anyone that happens to be enjoying the thread) to one a week come out of our little artist holes and update you all on our work. For anyone who hasn't seen the thread yet the link is here: soliaonline.com/community/view…
The thread is over time likely to get pretty cramped; we're not sure how long we'll let it go but when it starts to get too stuffed in there we'll start to archive the sneak peeks in the gallery here. We try to keep our updates consistently to Thursdays unless something else that takes priority happens to fall on a Thursday then it will happen Friday or whenever the next open day is.

Though its not our team's work we're excited to see Mira's Kitchen back up and going.  They update on Tuesdays unless again something takes priority then it too falls onto the next available day. Speaking of Mira's Kitchen they're running a campaign theres only 3 hours or so left to enter, everyone gets a prize so get to it!

So anyway we wanted to ask, what kind of updates do you want to see here? We have things and just aren't sure what you all are interested in seeing here. So let us know!

We're sorry about the long absence from DA. We had lost access to it for awhile awhile there but we've got it back now! We'll be updating again but first, we've got to catch up on those that need banners! After that we've got 10k DeviantWatch Messages to go through. ^_^;; Don't worry we'll catch up!

If you're here your probably looking to get your banner! Claiming your banner is easy, just go to the main :iconsoliaartteam: Profile  and click Watch. Then post here with your Solian Username. Simple right?

Please be patient when waiting for your banner. Someone does have to collect all the names here manually and deliver them by hand while taking note of whose already gotten one.

NOTE: If you have a name with strange characters in it please post your user number as well in order to ensure you get your banner!

Solia Art Team Interviews:

Hello there! Have you always wondered what goes on in the life and minds of the members of our Art Team? Do you crave information on what it's like inside their heads? Have you ever wanted to ask them your burning questions*? You're in luck! We're going to be doing monthly interviews of the Art Team, just for you!

Anyway, here's how it works.

I'll have a set of 3 base questions I will ask the interviewee. In this thread, and in the Journal on the Deviant Art page, for the first two weeks of the month you guys can propose questions that I can ask the interviewee of the month. I'll pick 15 of those questions and, well, ask them in my interview. At the end of the month the interview will be released on our Deviant Art page and you can view it right here. I'm on the lookout for questions that are unique, thoughtful, or questions that crop up often. There is a sister thread on Solia Online located here.

If you are submitting a question, please leave a comment on this journal entry. Make sure to put who the question is for in your comment so that I can keep track of what questions are for whom. ^^

Now, there are some base rules you have to follow. I won't allow any questions that are too personal, or seem unsavory in nature. The artists can't go into detail about the back end, or as of yet unreleased items. I won't allow questions that seem to be "baiting", or insulting the artist, and I won't tolerate people fighting amongst themselves in the thread.

Got it? Now, let's ask some questions! <3

* If your questions burn, please consult a doctor. Do not question after eating, or around heavy machinery. Ask your doctor if interviews are right for you.

-----------------------------------------------

This Month's interviewee is: Dekkard.
Questioning is now closed! Check back on the 1st to see the interview!

Base Questions

* What is your favorite Solia Palette Color?
* Which is easier to pixel on: Male Base or Female Base?
* What inspires you artistically, and why does it inspire you?

User Submitted Questions

~Remember to put the name of the interviewee in the comment when submitting a question.~

01.) What inspired you to go into the art field? Is this something you imagined doing when you were in school? (This being art director of a site) If not what did you have in mind back then for your life/career?

02.) How do you go about making the new Donation Items every month? Do you make four items and then decide which should be the Capsule Item, Capsule Common, and regular donation items, or do you go into making them knowing what you want each to be?

03.) So, you are the art team director, does that mean you control the quality of the items too? Do you suggest things like which colors an item can be or do you give total freedom to the artists?

04.) What do you like to do in your spare time when you aren't doing stuff for Solia?

05.) What is the thing you enjoy doing most on Solia, be it actual artist/admin, or user related stuffs; IE: games, farming, posting or pixeling? Etc. [From DA]

06.) How did you find Solia (or Tornfaun)? Do you like Cats? [From DA]

07.) What item, item set, or item idea are you most proud of/happy with, and why?
(I don't mean like "what's your favorite item", but more what's your favorite item moment. Maybe it's the idea to do recolors of old DIs, or maybe it's a set that was so brilliant it sold like hotcakes, or... maybe it's a single item you didn't think could be made but your team went above and beyond.)

08.) What are some of your future goals? (In your life or for Solia)

09.) Do you find the extended palette difficult to work with in terms of item creation? Or has it become easier over time?

10.) What is the story of how you met Iscariot?

11.) What do you find hardest about your job at Solia? [Other then possibly never sleeping, I suppose?]

12.) Okay so we're going out to lunch. What do you order? [You pick the restaurant]

13.) If you were a Solian pet... which would you be?

14.) Did you choose the different colors for the staff usernames? (like yours is purple, mods are green and blue, etc.) If so, what made you choose those colors for those particular jobs and do they have any behind-the-scenes meaning?

15.) Do you have any advice, or at least tips for those who wish to work as an artist for an avatar site?

Sorry for the lack of updates these past few days. We where swamped prepairing for the opening of Splash! and the usual 1st of the month updates. With all that now out of the way we'll have some new pieces to post here again later this afternoon.

Besides the contest for a concept artist currently going on we need a few artists to help out with CG pet/monster/animal art. We want the creatures to be cartoon like with nicely drawn and well lined. They will be used in games and their colors will be changed by the game so the coloring needs to stay simple. We do have what we want in mind but because this project is new on our plate we don't have samples yet. If you however are good with drawing animals in a cartoon-like style (Please don't mistake this for kiddy. We're looking for creatures from cute and cuddly to scary and gruesome, we need all types.) and you are looking for a job please leave us a comment/note. Its easiest if you have samples in your own deviant art or photobucket gallery for us to look at. We will need to see that you have a good number of samples of your art. You may also PM Dekkard on Solia Online if your art is in your Solia Online gallery.

We hope to hear from you.

We now have a sample to show of the style and look we want for these pets/creatures/animals. Besides its small size you have to be able to work within our odd PSD set up so it works with the system.
